Silva defends title against Leites in UFC 97

Middleweight champion Anderson Silva will defend his title against Thales Leites in the UFC 97 main event on April 18 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The UFC made the match up official on Sunday.

Silva will go into this match with a nine-fight winning streak as he defends his title. His last fight was in October's UFC 90 when he squared up against Patrick Cote. After the fight Silva was criticized for an uninspired performance, which ended 39 seconds into round three after Cote collapsed from a knee injury and was unable to continue.

Leites (14-1) has not competed since UFC 90 where he submitted McFedries with a rear-naked choke in the first round.
